Freedom! The Spirit and Legacy of Black Music
CURATED, DIRECTED AND STARRING BEAU DIXON
WED 1 FEB 2023 AT 7:30PM

PARTRIDGE HALL

From the moment Black people landed on North American soil, their music took root and became the basis of much of the popular music we hear today. There is an endless list of exceptional Black musicians who have been lost to history while their white counterparts gained fame. From church hymnals to the blues, from jazz to rock ’n’ roll, R&B and rap, we owe much of our musical history to Black culture, and it’s time to give credit where it is due. Freedom! was a huge success in Stratford Festival’s recent Cabaret Series and features a company of ten superb Black performers and musicians.

Beau Dixon is an award-winning actor, musician, singer/songwriter, playwright, music director and sound designer. As an actor and musician he's performed on numerous theatre stages throughout Canada, the USA and Europe. He's received two Dora Mavor Moore Awards, a Calgary and Toronto Critics Award, and was a finalist for the KM Hunter Award.
